Its racewear season, take your queues from the latest royal wedding. Racewear has a conservative starting point, with bright colours & headwear adding the interest or je ne sais quoi. The reason for this starting point, is that racing is traditionally the sport of kings! Since the Melbourne Cup is not a wedding, race wear can have a slightly more of a peacock feel, things can be a bit bigger, a bit more flamboyant, a little more over the top.
This year hats are out of favour and things like headbands and scarfs are in, giving a more contemporary /fashion edge, also allowing for the statement earrings which are very on trend. As for shoes, unless you are in the members stand or at an event indoors, stay away from stilettos & opt for a chunky heel.
Each day for the Melbourne Cup race carnival has a dedicated flower:
Darby Day – Cornflower
Melbourne Cup – Yellow Rose
Crown Oaks Day – Pink Rose
Stakes Day – Red Rose
Apparently wearing the right flower brings good luck…so good luck!
